Data Gators
Data Gators is a peer tutoring and computational support service organized by the Department of Computer and Information Science and the Office of the Associate Provost for Institutional Effectiveness, Strategic Planning, and Assessment at Allegheny College.
The service is built around a simple idea: research and data-driven projects are more manageable when you have a knowledgeable peer in your corner. Data Gators tutors are trained Allegheny students ready to sit down with you, understand what you’re working on, and help you move forward.
What They Help With
Data Gators covers the full stack of computational research support:
- R and Python programming — from first scripts to more complex analysis pipelines
- Preparing and cleaning data — shaping raw data into something you can actually work with
- Statistical analysis — understanding which tests to use and how to interpret results
- Data visualization — making charts, graphs, and figures that communicate clearly
- Model building — regression, classification, and other approaches to learning from data
Whether you are working on a senior thesis, a class project, or faculty research, Data Gators can help.
How to Get Help
Drop by Alden Hall during Data Gators office hours — bring your computer and your questions. No appointment needed. The tutors are there to work through problems with you, not just hand you answers.
