Pallas-Athena Cain Wins Best Poster at FLAIRS-38

Allegheny CIS senior Pallas-Athena Cain won the Best Poster Award at FLAIRS-38, the 38th International Florida Artificial Intelligence Research Society Conference, held May 20–23, 2025 in Daytona Beach.

The Research

Cain’s awarded poster, “Am.I.: Investigating AI Bias, Expression, and Humanities Through GPT-Powered Robotics”, was co-authored with Professor Janyl Jumadinova and Heather Brand. The project explores how AI systems express bias through humanoid robots, using GPT-powered interaction to examine the intersection of artificial intelligence, artistic expression, and the humanities.

Professor Oliver Bonham-Carter also presented at the conference in the Applied NLP track: “An Efficient Text Analysis Tool for Streamlining Literature Reviews.”

Awards & Honors Context

Cain was also recognized at Allegheny’s 2025 Honors Convocation with the Best Comprehensive Senior Project Prize in Computer Science, and received the Faculty Prize for Outstanding Major Achievement — a remarkable close to her undergraduate career.
