Kaibas '26 Joins Google Summer of Code & Presents Research to Meta
AI is transforming nearly every industry, but for Benedek Kaibas ‘26, the question driving his work was more fundamental: if type checkers catch errors in code made by humans and AI alike, who checks the checkers?
That question became the basis of his Senior Comprehensive Project — a study of static analysis tools in Python that earned a best-in-class distinction from the computer science department. Kaibas released his findings on GitHub to gather real-time feedback from the open-source community and continues to improve the project’s speed and cross-platform accessibility.
With support from his advisor, Professor Gregory Kapfhammer, Kaibas was also invited to present his research directly to engineers at Meta. Kapfhammer praised Kaibas as “an incredibly strong student who is also committed to helping others succeed,” noting that he volunteered his time to mentor juniors in the department’s Junior Seminar throughout his final semester.
His open-source work also helped him stand out in the competitive selection process for Google Summer of Code — a global program pairing contributors with world-class mentors. Through the program, Kaibas will work with mentors from Apple and JetBrains to further develop his skills.
Outside of academics, Kaibas was a member of the men’s tennis team, which won four consecutive Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championships. After graduation, he plans to pursue a master’s degree at Eötvös Loránd University in Hungary to continue his research in programming languages.
