The Department of Computer and Information Science at Allegheny College prepares students to meet the challenges and opportunities of a continually advancing field. Careers in computing remain the fastest growing in STEM, and our graduates enter these fields ready to contribute as skilled, thoughtful, and creative professionals.
Our approach to teaching and research is centered on students. At Allegheny College, you will study the foundations of computing while developing the ability to communicate effectively and to collaborate across disciplines. Through programs in Computer Science, Data Science, Informatics, and Software Engineering, you will explore both the theory and practice of the field. Students design and release applications, analyze data, build open-source tools, and develop large-scale systems that are used by researchers, teachers, and industry professionals.
Throughout your studies, you will also examine the social and ethical dimensions of technology. We emphasize the importance of responsible and inclusive approaches to computing, preparing you to lead in a world where technology affects every community.
